“VICTOR STITCHES; OR, THE HAIKU PROMETHEUS” by Kristina Elyse Butke

Victor Stitches by Kristina Butke Front
As I pierce the skin
I consider the needle.
Or rather, its thread.

I must clean the gut,
Or infection will blemish
The quilted derma.

Carbolic acid
Is the surgeon’s elixir.
Will it be enough?

Or should it matter
When you suture a man who
Is already dead?
